Vetspaddle.com is a free program for Veterans, and is completely reliant on community and corporate donations.
This program fills a vital need for thousands of Veterans in Southern California.
Veterans' family and friends, I'm David "Doc" O'Connor, United States Army Veteran, Honorable Discharge, "69-71", and the founder of "vetsPaddle.com". Our mission is to get our wounded veterans, whether physically, mentally or emotionally wounded, on the water!
We use specialty equipment - Hobi Kayaks provided by Tim Boyer of Pure Water Sports, in Dana Point. CA.
In February 2013, the Department of Veterans Affairs released a study showing every day 22 veterans commit suicide. I decided to do something about it; that's when vetspaddle.com was born.
As the previous owner and operator of "Rentals and Tours", located at the William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Park Beach, of San Simeon , CA., I spent 5 years launching customers at a popular central, California beach break: I have extensive experience in kayak surfing, instructing and equipping individuals and groups, to experience the amazing waters of the Pacific Coast.
We accept donations: money, food for veteran kayak lunches and fundraisers, and kayaking equipment.
Thank you for your consideration and support. Help us show our appreciation for the proud men and women of the Armed Forces.
Sponsored by; Hobie distributor in the Dana Point harbor, Pure Watersports of Dana Point, vetspaddle.com.
Meeting location is on the beach at Pure Watersports, located at 34671 Puerto Place in Dana Point Harbor.
A regular schedule is important to helping veterans adapt to society; by meeting for kayaking regularly on a weekly basis, it gives veterans an effective PTSD coping mechanism to look forward to and plan ahead for. While sitting in the kayaks veterans are able to enjoy the benefits of nature which is vital to their rehabilitation, and also enjoy the extreme benefit of the quiet intimacy that tranquil ocean therapy can bring to them.
Wounded veterans need a support system to help regain what they’ve lost. It’s hard for a veteran to explain to a civilian what's happened to them, and the comradery of other veterans out on the ocean is invaluable. Vetspaddle.com, is a free program for veterans, and is completely reliant on community and corporate donations. This program fills a vital need for the thousands of disabled veterans in Southern California and abroad who return home with PTSD.
All tours are by appointment only. We offer harbor kayaking tours, kayak fishing, and kayak surfing, all from Dana Point Harbor.
